Overview

Dropbox is a relatively well established company to the online backup market. After launching in April 2006, Dropbox has seen a steady growth and continuous development. Customers are able to download the software for free, and store up to 2GB of data.

Although Dropbox allows you to back up your files online it's main purpose was originally sharing important files and documents online and being able to access them on other computers around the world.

Features

If you were to accidentally delete a file, Dropbox doesn't delete your file from the server. This enables you piece of mind 24/7, but on the other hand customers may want to remove files from the server and because this is a file storage program you would have to do this twice, once on your computer and again at Dropbox.

Overall we found Dropbox to be a reliable service and secure. But compared to its close competitors, you are able to get the same standard of service, security and reliability for a cheaper price with the added bonus of full automation with 9/10 other providers.

Fine in the short term

Dropbox is great for short term file storage and for sharing files with my friends, but it doesn't make me feel very secure so I wouldn't use it to backup my whole PC.

If you're only looking for a short term solution, this is it.

Manual Backup, never again

I was always under the impression online backup was supposed to make your life easier? Not with Dropbox apparently.

I run a small business and am constantly altering files, downloading documents and creating new word and excel files. Having to make a mental note of all these in order to backup them up later proved time consuming and ineffective. I had no choice but I had to move providers to one who offered file versioning and automated backups. I decided to go with JustCloud and have never looked back! I urge all Dropbox users to do the same!

Trust reviews not friends!

Although the hand drawn icons are amusing, I found the Dropbox website to be difficult to navigate and their service slow and basic. Based on a recommendation from a friend, I signed up and gave Dropbox the benefit of the doubt, but eventually has to cease my subscription. If only I'd found this review site before I wasted all that time.

Seeing as Dropbox doesn't even feature in the Top10 proves I made the right decision to move to MyPC Backup instead. There provision of online storage is excellent and the customer support team at MyPC Backup couldn't have been more professional. I encourage everyone who is looking to backup online to do their research rather than listen to their friends.

Went elsewhere

I heard about how easy it is to lose computer files and why online computer backup is so important, so I decided to join Dropbox as a way to protect my files. For some reason, though, the file I downloaded from them wouldn't work correctly on my computer and I ended up having one problem after another.

I started looking around for an alternative and found MyPC Backup. Their program installed correctly on my computer the first time, and I haven't had any technical problems with them since. I recommend them.

Long time customer (well I was anyway)

I've been using Dropbox for a long time, because for a while they were the only reliable online backup company I could find. Now that online backup has become more well-known, there are more options available and the prices are more competitive. I switched over to MyPC Backup because I get more for my money, and with today's economy that is really important to me.

Business Customer

I own a small business, and I value customer service above all else. It's what makes me stand out from my competitors, and it's why my business is thriving while others aren't. I decided to use Dropbox to back up my business documents, but the first time I had a problem and needed to contact customer service I was very disappointed. It was nearly impossible for me to get in touch with a real person, and their automated replies to my support tickets didn't help. I cancelled my service right away and looked for a different option that offers better support, which I found in MyPC Backup. I give their customer support an A+

One thing I didn't like about Dropbox was that every time I would modify a file, I would have to manually back it up all over again. I thought services like this were supposed to make it easy to back up files?

I switched to MyPC Backup because once the file is backed up it will automatically back up again every time I change it.

This makes way less work for me, which is why I wanted an online backup service in the first place. I would say that MyPC Backup is more user-friendly than Dropbox for sure.

Dropbox

I was using Dropbox to back up my files, but then I had a technical issue and needed some help. Instead of being able to call customer service to ask my question, they made me fill out a form online. When no one replied to my form I sent another one asking for a phone number I could call to speak to a real person. When I finally got connected to a human being everything went alright, but it was a real struggle to talk to a live person. I'd prefer a company that offers a higher level of customer service.
